E-learning for sustainable fleet by IFRC/ICRC, October 2022

Published on 3 October 2022

With global warming and increasing CO2 emissions each year, environmental sustainability is becoming an imperative. That’s why the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) led the development of the ‘Climate and Environment Charter for humanitarian organisations’, where there is a call for “work and rapidly reduce our greenhouse gas emissions” and to better management of hazardous waste. The IFRC and ICRC are co-leading the Sustainable Supply Chain Alliance (SSCA) project, a cross-cutting initiative aimed at improving the environmental, social and economic impact of supply chains in the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

This Sustainable Fleet online course is one of the tangible results of that joint work to start changing some practices across the members of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. With this self-paced online course you will learn about the environmental impact of operating a fleet of vehicles and possible ways to reduce it.

This course is not only for fleet specialists, but any staff that in general uses corporate vehicles – either as a driver or a as passenger – as well as managers that need to support changes towards more sustainable practices across all our offices.

Under the specific section for ‘vehicle users’, you will find tips and information about how each of us could influence in reducing the organisation’s carbon emissions related to the use of vehicles.

It includes four different sub-modules targeting different types of roles in the organisation:

1) a passenger being transported in a vehicle;
2) management / administration staff in a country office;
3) a vehicle fleet manager;
4) a vehicle workshop manager.

Duration : around an hour
