At the 1st European Humanitarian Forum, which was held in Brussels on 21-23 March, France announced the launch of the Humanitarian Aid Donors’ Declaration on Climate and the Environment endorsed by the 27 Member States of the European Union.
Faced with this emergency, a growing number of humanitarian organisations have decided to act as illustrated by the Climate and Environment Charter for Humanitarian Organizations, initiated by the International Committee of the Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and the Statement of Commitment on Climate by Humanitarian Organisations.
Governments and donors have a key role to play in supporting this momentum and bringing other organisations on board, helping facilitate the creation of an environment more conducive to a humanitarian system that prevents, prepares, anticipates and responds to climate and environmental risks and impacts.
