Podcast “Humanitarianism Taken At Its Word”: The “Climatisation” of Aid, June 2023

This podcast is part of Groupe URD’s “Humanitarianism taken at its word” series. A short programme that examines the aid sector through its major words. Each word is dealt with from a number of angles, and each programme features a guest who specialises in the issue in question.

This second instalment in the series on greenwashing looks at a specific example of the misuse of environmental concerns in humanitarian and conflict contexts.

Johana Bretou-Klein, Environment and Climate Researcher at Groupe URD, talks to us about these complex links, which are increasingly common in aid fields. Johana is the author of a research paper on this phenomenon, which is also known as the ‘climatisation’ of crises.
