Webinar – Launch of the updated version of the Humanitarian Carbon Calculator (HCC+), 14/05/2024

Did you know that humanitarian organizations can calculate their carbon emissions using an Excel-based application that is free of cost and based on the globally recognized GHG Protocol?

And not only a tool, but a set of guidance in the form videos and documents are also available in the web page of the Climate and Environment Charter for Humanitarian Organizations, as well as an informal forum of interested organization, to exchange experiences, lessons learned and question.

After receiving input from many of the organizations who have used the Humanitarian Carbon Calculator (HCC), it was decided to review the tool during the second semester of 2023. Several discussions were held to decide on the new enhancements that should be made to the instrument. We would want to introduce the update tool with few examples of the new enhancements through this webinar.

• Measure up as much as 200 entities (like offices, countries or projects)
• An alternative method of data input, particularly for organizations with big datasets and lots of entities
• Added ability to look for problems in data input.
• Improved GHG results per entity and primary subcategories presentation.
• A new feature that makes it possible to integrate to an external data visualisation and analysis tool, such as Microsoft Power BI or Tableau
• New emission factors added (150) and several existing updated (450).
• Use different techniques for allocating emissions across entities.
• Analyse outcomes at the grouping (super-entity) level of entities
• Add comments and explanations to each data input point, that simplifies collecting data from multiple individuals across an organisation.
• Analyse emissions associated with leased/rented assets.

In early 2024, the HCC+ underwent pilot testing by various organizations such as CAA and IFRC. On the 14th of May 2024 at 1pm GMT+2, the tool will be formally presented to the humanitarian sector and with this message we would like to invite you to the meeting. You can register here. Join!
